Humble Works

“For whoever exalts himself will be abased, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14:11

God recently used a small act of unknown humbleness to transform a tense situation into an opportunity to work together and love deeper.

Lord, thank You for showing me an example of what You can do when my heart is humble. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Lowly and Blessed

A heart that lifts itself
can’t see down beneath

all the things God would choose
lie piled at the feet.

But when a heart is lowly
and considering itself less

God’s every move surprises
creating joy and blessedness.

  1. Excellent!
Humbleness works because it is a conduit for God’s will.
I have seen a few brothers and sisters in Christ who are really tapped into it.
I have much room for improvement but I am encouraged by this.

  2. May I be willing to set my pride aside to become a conduit for Your will.

    thank you deb and wherearetheheroes.

  3. Deb, This is great! Another example of His “Jericho strategy” – to humble oneself instead of exalt oneself. I love this part of your poem:

But when a heart is lowly
    and considering itself less

    God’s every move surprises
    creating joy and blessedness.

Thanks for being a blessing and bringing joy. Peace, Linda

  4. Deb,
    This is so beautiful!

  5. I’m encouraged because you are encouraged! This time was eye opening to me, because I didn’t realize that my heart attitude had shifted and changed. Jesus did that! But the results were a complete turn around from what usually happens and so Yes! I want Him to work more humbleness in me too! πŸ™‚
God bless you and all the ways He is working in you today!

  6. That was a great prayer to pray, Angel A! I’m praying it with you. God bless you as His will flows in and through you!

  7. I may have mentioned keeping a “gratitude” journal, or writing down simple joys each day. He is doing so much more than I take note of, but if I look beyond myself a little more . .. there He is, surprising me with more and more joy! πŸ™‚
God bless you, lovely Linda, and the blessing and joy you are!

  8. Theresa . . .so are you! πŸ™‚ God bless you and cover you with His smile and love today!

  9. Thank you, Deb

Reminds me of the verse ” He must increase, I must decrease” (St John 3:30)

Less of me and more of Him works!

  10. More of Him most definitely works for me too! πŸ™‚ God bless you, Ann-full-of-grace. Thank you for that verse from John! πŸ™‚

  11. Debbie, this expresses my mood during Lent, especially. The servant’s heart, the servant’s hands, the heart of others above your own – and above all of it, God. Thank you and bless you, Amy

  12. Deb, I just gave you a Versatile Blogger Award. Stop by to pick up your award. Peace, Linda

  13. God bless your servant’s heart, Amy. You have that year around. So thankful for you!

  14. Thank you Linda!

  15. Thank you Lord for bringing to my life a humble woman named Deb who has been sharing your grandeur! πŸ™‚

  16. God bless you, sweet Rea, for shining so much for Him, and teaching me about humility too!

  17. Hi Deb. I just gave you the Versatile Blogger Award. You can stop by and pick up your award. Blessings, Theresa

  18. You sweet thing . . .I’ll fix it and no one will know! Promise. πŸ™‚ You are the best and thank you so much!

  19. I’ve been blessed to have similar experiences over the last several months, Deb. I’m so thankful to have a God who not only loves me, but has a loving plan for me!

  20. Really Eric? I’m so thankful to hear that! It’s hard to explain sometimes how it all works or even understand. But I love that He loves us and does the work and knows what He is doing too! God bless you and all the plans He has for you!
