Jesus Said “No”

“And Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered such things?'” Luke 13:2
“I tell you no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3

I thought I was too messed up, too far gone, too bad. But Jesus said, “No”.

Thank You, Lord, for the hope and joy of salvation and redemption when we turn away from our sins and call on You. And here’s a simple poem . . .

None Worse

Fingers point
surely we’re the worse
our conscience sears
we hurt because we hurt

but Jesus stands ready
to say “No” to all the pain
as soon as we are willing
to believe upon His name.

  1. Deb,

This was a puzzling little Bible passage for me to read. I read two different translations. Then I read the rest of your post, and once again you got down to the heart of the matter. You do this all of the time. πŸ™‚

It comes down to the fact that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and are in danger of judgement. But Jesus came and lived and died and rose again. He took the punishment for all who would receive Him.

Thank you so much for helping me to see that.

    Love,
    Theresa

  2. β€œNo” to all the pain
No stopping until I listen to Him, Deb!
Thank you for writing this one for I have so much to think about πŸ™‚

  3. Theresa, I found myself rereading it afterward too. I think I chose to pull that out of it, but that may not be the the bottom line of His meaning. I read and am convicted and guided for myself. But then for this blog, I have to read again and again and ask Him what stands out to encourage with. Nothing wrong with the convicting parts . . .just not what I think He’s calling me to do here. I slip into it, but really want to encourage more.
God bless you for encouraging me!

  4. No stopping Jesus in your life, Rea Sonshine! πŸ™‚ God bless you and your love of Him!

  5. Thank you Deb,

Sometimes ‘No’ is good for us, yes?

Blessings and thanks, Deb. I’m glad “Mercy said No!”

    Grateful,
    ann

  6. Oh, Deb! I SO love this one! (I am catching up in reverse here after a few days so will read some more later.) Can’t wait to read about Israel, too! Thank you, beloved messenger and encourager!

  7. …and teacher! πŸ™‚

  8. I thought of that song too, Ann! πŸ™‚ Actually had the blessing of hearing him sing it live at our Easter Celebration one year. Grayson Long worked at the local Christian radio station and some how got his brother involved and he sang that song. So special!
God bless you and all the no’s He says to the bad stuff in our lives!

  9. You are the sweetest! So blessed to have you blessing everyone here, Angel A!

  10. “We hurt because we hurt…”

Because we hurt others? Or because we simply hurt as a fact of life…

I like that so much because in both cases hurting is just part of living. Today I decided, “Okay, fine. I’m just not going to be hurt anymore, because I don’t deserve to be treated this way.”

And Jesus said “no” to the pain, lifted me back up like He’s done a thousand times, and tomorrow we’ll do it all again. : )

    You inspire me… thank you!

  11. You are such a careful reader, Linda! I did have others in after the first word “hurt”, but took it out because it didn’t flow as well to me. But you are right, we can also just hurt because of life! Love you seeing that!
I think I know a little about the kind of hurt you say no to and just can’t take any more of . . .but for Jesus. God bless you and all you do each day, all the times you say “Yes” to Him.
    Sending love your way . . .

  12. I like it.. what can I say. very thoughtful.. because we do disqualify ourselves so easiliy but the mercy of God is so much bigger than anything we can ever have done.

  13. Love that mercy that doesn’t let us go! God bless you, Kathy, and thank you for being here!
