Seeing Beyond

“When He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, ‘Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the teacher’.” Luke 8:49
“But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, ‘Do not be afraid, only believe, and she will be made well’.” Luke 8:50

Jesus doesn’t hear, see or respond like everyone else.

Lord, please give me eyes to see beyond what my mind thinks it knows. And here’s a simple poem . . .

According To Him

I’m handed her diagnosis
and my heart begins to sink

so I turn to Jesus
to see what He thinks

He answers that she is surely
healed in Him

but others all around her
need His healing within.

  1. Thanks, Deb

    “so I turn to Jesus
    to see what He thinks”

I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find out what the doctors thought … Thanks for reminding me to check in with what He said 🙂

    Isaiah 53:5
“But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed. ”

Thanks for this beautiful prayer, Deb
“Lord, please give me eyes to see beyond what my mind thinks it knows.”

Thank you for this very relevant piece, Deb. I will believe His report! I will remember to extend His love to those who need healing.

    God bless you.
    ann

  2. This is exactly where I am wrestling right now.

  3. Deb,

I am so glad that you wrote this post. It instills much hope.

“Lord, please give me eyes to see beyond what my mind thinks it knows.”

I am praying that prayer. Thank you.

    Love,
    Theresa

  4. Oh gracious Ann . . .asking the doctors is what we’re supposed to do. 🙂 But, if I only listened to them, I wouldn’t have much to go on, for each day. We need that Jesus report, don’t we? 🙂
God bless you and the way you love like Him!

  5. You know, I didn’t realize that as I read your comments earlier, that we are once again in a very similar place. I’m so blown away that He brings others who understand and are going through the same faith walks as we are, right when we need each other.Amazing God. . .amazing how He sees and responds. Praying for more of that!
God bless you as you wrestle. You are winning because He’s won!

  6. God bless you, Theresa! I’m so glad that this gives hope! Felt I was getting away from being encouraging and slipping more into convicting. I might need to read once, for Him to convict and correct me and then again for something to encourage with! ha! Praying for Jesus to give you a good report today and let you know how very much He loves you!

  7. Deb, So often we ask for physical healing – at least I know I do – when He has already healed those who believe in the most important way possible. We are spiritually dead before we know Him, but once we believe we are spiritually alive in Christ and no physical ailment can take that away. I do believe He also provides physical healing, as in the passage from Luke and many other places in the Gospels and in our lives today, but only in so much as it serves the greater purpose of spiritual healing no only for the sick but for those around them.

I think I just repeated what you said in your poem only had to use a lot more words to do it. Your poetry is so wonderful in how you say so much with so few words. Thank you for inspiring the poet in me, too. Peace, Linda

  8. I love how you said that about physical healing and spiritual healing and the connection. That is so good and beautifully put! It needed everyone of the words you used. 🙂
God bless you Linda, for always putting Him first. I know when you are in pain, what you just said isn’t easy to live out, but you do it each day and help us to too!

  9. I have a bad habbit of expecting that what I mean by what I say will be clearly understood. The comment on my site was in relation to the praying for your daughter that started just before we left town. I was trying to let you know, without just coming out and saying it that the stirring to pray for her has not diminished. I posted it as a comment since it was an extension of the earlier comments about ‘conspiring’. I can understand how you did not make the connection. It was tempting to let it go but I thought it would be good for you to know.

My comment here this morning was about that struggle. The mustard seed of faith is about that struggle. The wrestling is along the lines of the line you wrote; “give me eyes to see beyond what my mind thinks it knows”. I have seen beyond and now wrestle to take hold of it.

    All for now.

  10. Amen Deb – he saw with better eyes, Our Lord – those are the eyes I want too – right along with you. God Bless and keep you my friend.

  11. Thank you so much for wrestling, for praying for us and for others. Thank you for a faith that says “grow”. I am believing with you that there is so much more to what I see, than what my mind accepts and understands. I want that too. Praying with you and for you for us to see beyond, to see like Jesus and respond likewise with what we see! God bless you Mike!

  12. I know you believe and see Him in your pain, in your place that needs healing, being healed while the disease/disorder still remains. Thank you so much for your testimony and faith that helps everyone else too! 🙂

  13. You know all to well what I struggled with. It is hard to bear at times, but he will lead the way. Love them, he gives us a big enough heart. Filled with wonderment for all he has to show us. Even if we disagree.

  14. I need His healing as well… 🙂

  15. Love you E, and your tenderness to Him and to us, even when handed such a devastating loss. Praying for a heart like yours, to keep loving and learning and being filled with His wonder. God bless you and love on you today!

  16. Oh me too!!!! I am the one closest to her, so when He told me that others around her would need healed, I’m sure I was at the top of the list. ha!
God bless you and hold you in His healing arms today!
