Journeying By Cloud

“Whether it was two days, a month, or a year that the cloud remained above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would remain encamped and not journey; but when it was taken up, they would journey.” Numbers 9:22

I’ve thought it would be so nice to have a cloud like this to guide me.

Lord, please help me to know when to stop and stay, and when to go, by the power of Your Holy Spirit. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Holy Spirit Compass

We don’t have a cloud hovering by day
or the appearance of fire at night
to show us the way to go
and when the time is right

but He has given us His Spirit
to guide us through this life
to help us take those steps of faith
as our inner compass of Holy sight.

  1. !!!!!

Yesterday morning the Lord used this passage to minister to me! Sometimes I get off in such a rush I don’t realize the cloud (or the pillar of fire) has been left behind in my dust. I don’t always wait on Him – I think I know where I’m going and then I end up lost 😦

Deb, thank you for this piece. Sometimes it’s hard when the cloud won’t go where I want it to go but I’m thankful for your message and your prayer today: “Lord, please help me to know when to stop and stay, and when to go, by the power of Your Holy Spirit.” (Oh my word… I needed this. Very badly needed this)

Thank You for confirming Your words, O Lord. Lead me. I will follow You. So thankful that even when I take off on my own adventures You’re there with open arms waiting on me to come home to You.

Amazed at the way He loves,

  2. Deb, Great job giving credit where credit is due! I love this poem and the glory it gives to the Holy Spirit as our guide of when to stay and when to go. He may not be visible to the eye like the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire to the Israelites, but He does speak if only we will listen. Peace, Linda

  3. I am amazed too! πŸ™‚ I got a book titled “Saturdays With Stella”. Sorry, I forgot the author and I gave the book to a sweet neighbor. But in it she learned about her own relationship with God by having a dog named Stella going through obedience training. It was funny and oh so true at the same time. The sitting and staying part is really hard sometimes when I can get so distracted and antsy!
God bless you and everywhere He leads you!

  4. The listening part . . .ah yes! ha! I have to be paying attention to hear Him and that is a good thing to be doing all day long. πŸ™‚ I’m smiling how these Holy Spirit posts keep popping up after yours! Thank you Linda, and God bless you and yours!

  5. Deb, This made me smile. My dog is quite obedient and smart, except for one command that he often does not obey: Come. I wonder if that is another that God wants us to follow but sometimes we are stubborn and want to stay where we are. πŸ™‚ Peace, Linda

  6. Then on the other hand Deb, the cloud had them chasing their tails in the desert for forty years – JUST KIDDING GOD πŸ™‚

And β€œinner compass – holy sight” beautiful.

May God Bless and keep you and yours this day

  7. Haha! So true and that might just be what He has me doing too. But I’m going to do it with joy! πŸ˜‰ Thank you so much for your prayers and insight! You bless me!

  8. Have you read any John Donne? It is very dated but he has a wonderful poem about the ancient style of compass. Of course poetry is the first thing that enters my scattered little brain πŸ™‚

  9. I don’t think I have read John Donne, Jessie, so thanks for sharing that! πŸ™‚ You have the most amazing poetic brain, that scatters poems into the world that bless and grow us. πŸ™‚

  10. The kiddos and I love clouds — there are miracles in the clouds. Or it must be the Holy Spirit who made us see the miracles. Love it, love Him!

  11. Love your love of Him! Thank you for sharing it! It’s contagious! πŸ™‚

  12. Wow Deb’s. This is beautiful. Thanks for the reminder. Let us not go or stay anywhere, unless the Lord is with us. Under His cloud we are protected and all we lack is provided, outside the cloud, we are toast 😦
I really needed this, thanks… love, Rita

  13. oops I forgot… Have a blessed new year πŸ™‚

  14. I am laughing about the toast part . . .so true! πŸ™‚ and loving that we are protected and provided for with Him! God bless you, Rita, and your beautiful vibrant faith in Him!

  15. You too!!!! πŸ™‚

  16. This holds so much truth, Deb. I remember a time when I was learning to walk in faith – my heart was willing me to step forward, but my mind was prepared to fight with every excuse that it could muster. After what seemed like an eternity, I stepped out in faith, and felt the arms of God welcoming me. Thank you for your words!

  17. Somedays a cloud would still really help! If I could readily see, would I step out more easily . . .trust more? hhmmm. I think I’m making excuses. God bless you as you keep walking with Him!
