Numbered

“As the Lord commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the Wilderness of Sinai.” Numbers 1:19
“So all who were numbered of the children of Israel, by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war in Israel – all who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.” Numbers 1:45-46

We don’t normally like being numbered – or thought of as a number – or even taking numbers.

Lord God, thank You for numbering us among Your army, for counting us as worthy. May we ever be ready to go to war for You, whether it be on our feet or on our knees. And here is a simple poem . . .

Fit to Fight

I have been numbered, counted
approved to go to war
so what am I hanging back
turning away and hiding for?
As You have already gone ahead
and won the fight
let me not be afraid
to join forces for what is right.

  1. Yes Lord, why am I sometimes hesitant to join forces with the good and right? Why am I so afraid to claim that victory which You have won for us? Why am I not inviting others to experience the victory of having You?

Clearly I have yet a battle within but I know eventually victory will be mine — You are victory!

Thank you Deb for this winning poem!
    Happy and Victorious New Year!

  2. For some reason this made me think of numbering off in gym class for teams. I don’t hate your poem but – man – I hated gym πŸ™‚

  3. I love your comment, Rea! The battle within is such a great way to say it! πŸ™‚ God bless you and all the little spoons as you march into a new year!

  4. haha! I know just what you mean! πŸ™‚

  5. Deb, We don’t like to think of war – we prefer peace. But there is a spiritual war for the souls of men and women going on every day, whether we like it or not, and we need to be ready to fight in that war. There are people who think that war is always a bad thing and that we should avoid it or get out of war if we are in one. I always think about WWII and what would have happened if the U.S. had not participated in that war to fight against the evil that was advancing. Sometimes, when evil attacks, war is the only answer to ultimate peace. Thank you for this wonderful poem reminding us of our need to be ready and not hide from the battle. Peace, Linda

  6. It is a wonderful thing to be numbered. I like this poem, especially these words:

“As You have already gone ahead
    and won the fight
    let me not be afraid
to join forces for what is right.”

Doesn’t that make such a big difference? And our armor is so different from the armor that the world uses. Back in the late 80’s I heard a song sung by a group called “Harvest”. It was called “Army Of The Lord”, and has probably been performed by a lot of groups. Here is the chorus to that song:

“Are we walking into the enemy’s camp, laying our weapons down
shedding our armor as we go, leaving it on the ground?
We’ve gotta be strong in the power of his might and prove to the enemy
We are the army of the Lord and we’ve won the victory.”

This was a really good post! πŸ™‚

  7. Amen Deb. One of God’s β€œnumbers” – that makes the word 17 shades of different. And there is a constant war. If we forget – we lose. God Bless Deb.

  8. Thank you so much Linda, for understanding. I wasn’t so sure how this would be received. War is not a popular thing. But in the bible, it is often a God thing. I really appreciated your thoughts about WWII as well. God bless you as you stay ready for Him!

  9. Thank you for talking about the difference in the armor! πŸ™‚ And that song fits just perfectly here! You are so good at that!!! God bless you as you strengthen us by your faith! πŸ™‚

  10. The constant war . . .I feel it but want to forget sometimes. It is something that only God can do, to keep us joyful always and at war as well. Thank you for your wisdom here! πŸ™‚

  11. “Lord God, thank You for numbering us among Your army, for counting us as worthy. May we ever be ready to go to war for You, whether it be on our feet or on our knees.”

    Thanks for praying, Deb.

    Blessings,
    ann

  12. P.S. Happy 2011!

    πŸ™‚

  13. You are so welcome. πŸ™‚ Thank you for your prayerful comments and posts as well! You fight for us all the time, warrior Ann! God bless you!

  14. Praying your 2011 is happy and full of Jesus hope!
