Wilderness Offerings

“This is the law of the burnt offerings, the grain offering, the sin offering, the trespass offering, the consecrations and the sacrifice of the peace offering which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai, on the day that He commanded the children of Israel, to offer their offerings to the Lord, in the Wilderness of Sinai.” Leviticus 7:37-38

Harsh wilderness times can make us want to pull back and hunker down.

Thank You, Jesus, for showing us to offer of ourselves now, here in the middle of our need. These are the kind of offerings that make eyes and hearts turn to You. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Now’s Good

I scramble up from my
wilderness slouch, hearing

“Don’t wait until you reach
the promised land”

so I begin to offer
all that I can

get my hands
and heart around.

  1. I guess it’s in the desert that giving thanks is most important. To remember in the dark what he taught us in the light – and thank him through the pain. And even though we hate the pain, hate the desert, hate the hot, dry, blistering blasts of sandpaper wind – we love the one who is using it all to conform us into the image of God.

    I hate the Deserts.

    I love the God.

    happy day deb

  2. Deb, I love this – “These are the kind of offerings that make eyes and hearts turn to You.” It is when we offer Him praise in our trials that people stand up and take notice. If we praise Him for and in our blessings only, their eyes and hearts don’t react in quite the same way. Peace, Linda

  3. It’s contrary to what the world does, so makes perfect sense that it’s what God wants. 🙂 He is showing me more and more about wilderness times, and helping me to embrace it all and see it differently. Only God can have us smiling in the desert, handing out water to the odd passerby.
    God bless you!

  4. You’re right, Linda! And because of all He provides, even in the wilderness, we can give and praise Him. Something about this makes me excited! God bless you!

  5. Deb,

My friend just went through a terrible experience. In response to how she felt, she said “I thank God that He picked out a valley for me because I know He will restore my soul here” …

I was speechless for a moment or two. That was not the response we expected at all! We thought she was going to roll over and die but she chose to offer a sacrifice of praise right out there in the cold, unfriendly, frightening wilderness. Our God is indeed worthy.

Wilderness offerings can be really painful indeed but the sacrifices we make there will only cause us to grow stronger in Him.

Oh that I should respond to Him that way when the harsh season comes… She was in pain yet she found comfort in His word. She made an altar in the midst of her distress and offered worship there. I am humbled by the awesome wonder of the God we serve.

  6. That is truly a wilderness offering! Thank you for sharing such a great example of what it must have been like for the Israelites to sacrifice offerings in the wilderness of Sinai. It was not what they had planned . . .not what your friend had in mind of her walk with Jesus. God bless her and you!

  7. I came over after reading your recent comment; your timing on this one could not have been better.

“Offer ourselves now, don’t wait until you reach The Promised Land…”

    Powerful, powerful words!

Thank you so much for helping me to see a more clearly.

  8. We’ll just both thank Jesus, for helping us. 🙂 He keeps working on how I see things, respond. But I never want to “make my experiences God’s precepts” (from an Oswald Chamber’s devotion!), so these are mostly Him talking to me. Then if it helps someone else too . . .I am doubly blessed. 🙂 Thank you, Nor!
