A Perpetual Fire

“A perpetual fire shall burn on the altar, it shall never go out.” Leviticus 6:13

It takes time and care to keep a fire burning.

Lord, I pray to be perpetually blazing for You. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Lighting Fires

Gathering leaves and sticks
a little paper to start
our sidewalk fire

leaving the grass edges singed
my husband frowning
and the children excited

at the possibility of keeping
the flame alive.

  1. Nice one Deb.

And remember, it’s easier for an ember to stay hot if it’s in the company of other embers.

A flame in isolation will soon go out.

    Cheers,

    Darren

  2. Deb,

Keeping ablaze for God. I’ll share a little bit. I have what I call “the sleep thing” – it’s an illness that doesn’t even have a name because no doctor can figure out what it is. Had it 13 years now. It’s a double insomnia that runs rampant, in different forms, sometimes not allowing me to sleep despite medication, sometimes continuously waking me during sleep – seemingly at random. It’s in my brain somewhere. I just don’t get sleep. I may be unconscious – but I don’t get that restful stage of sleep we need. Enough to stay alive – but not enough to be “normal”. No big really – everyone has their cross. It has not so bad days – and THOSE kind of days. Today is one of THOSE kind of days.

I almost want to take that all back – sounds like whining. Sorry.

But today, even though I feel ick, and even though it won’t get any better, I am now going to stop every hour, and fuel my fire, some contact with God, a prayer to make it through, a prayer to be able to look normal, regardless of how I feel, a thankful moment because of whose I am. Something. All because you reminded me today to keep my fire burning.

Yay Deb – and twin blogs might just be born on Monday πŸ™‚ I want to put it off (you know, can’t fail if I don’t try :), more research, more practice, more safe writing in the comment sections, but it’s time isn’t it?

    God Bless Deb

  3. I’m so glad you shared. I’ve just been a little sleep deprived this week. . .can’t imagine 13 years of never getting the sleep your body needs. And it’s one of those things people can’t see . . .so it makes it harder for you to be understood. So thankful Jesus knows and understands your cross. Still, I am praying for healing too! And that He can keep you going and being a fire for Him. Two blogs . . .two fires burning! πŸ™‚
p.s. you did not whine . . .you shared your story. Thank you! God bless you and keep you today!

  4. Great insight Darren! Thank you for being an ember here today! πŸ™‚

  5. Deb, This post fits quite nicely with Eden’s post yesterday about the two candles at church. Even when we burn low, He won’t let our flame go out if we trust in Him. Sometimes He helps us burn so hot that the grass get’s singed! πŸ™‚ Peace, Linda

  6. I didn’t think about Eden’s post, but you’re so right. Thanks to Him! I love how you put that, that He won’t let our flames go out. We all needed to hear that today! πŸ™‚ God bless you!

  7. May God bless you as you keep your fire burning Deb πŸ™‚

    Eden

  8. Thank you, Eden, for fanning the flames! πŸ™‚ You are a gift . . .God bless you!
