Of Our Own Free Will

“If his offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish; he shall offer it of his own free will at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord.” Leviticus 1:3

For some reason I thought of free will as more of an A.D. term. But really it has always been a matter of choice.

Oh Lord, let me come often before You to offer up my own free will for Your will that frees me.

Offering Everything

How much shall I offer
of my own free will
to open the door just a crack
or to fling it wider still?
And what would it feel like
to give You all I have
unasked and unafraid
to live Your will for me instead?

What are some of your thoughts on free will?

  1. God is a gentleman. Not to say He doesn’t have righteous anger~ but He loves us and give us choices to make. It’s hard for me to understand because He knows all the days of our lives before we were even created in our mothers wombs, yet… He gives us free will! Amazing!

  2. Wow, Deb! “…let me come often before You to offer up my own free will for Your will that frees me.” That has to be one of the most profound statements I have ever read. That is great. I will definitely remember that!

  3. Deb, I want to just fling the door open as wide as it will go! This was an awesome post. I agree with Ben that the line about His will that frees us is incredibly profound.

I worked with a woman once who said she didn’t believe in the Bible, though she did think there was a God. But she also though giving people free will was the stupidest thing God ever did. Ironically, she was one who cherished her own free will more than anything. I still pray for her when she comes to mind. Peace, Linda

  4. It is amazing . . .He is amazing! It’s kind of mind boggling, that He knows ahead of time, but gives us the time to know too. 🙂 Thanks Peggy!

  5. Well, we know if something profound came out of me, it was because of Him! 🙂 I just do simple! Thanking Him for it being of any use to anyone. God bless you!

  6. Linda, I will pray for her too! It’s all too much, that He gave everything, and gave us the choice to choose Him or not. Thanks for always blessing me!

  7. I agree w/ Ben & Linda about that “frees us” bit.

We could not show Him real love or reverence without free will.

    Great post!

  8. You are so right about not being able to show Him real love without free will! Thank you so much for adding that here! 🙂 Really great opoetoo!
