Outside The Church

“But I say to you in this place, there is One greater than the temple.”  Matthew 12:6

It’s been about 9 years since I’ve been able to attend church.  I don’t understand all the why’s and how comes of it.  Nor do I understand all that God’s doing in this.  I love my church and church family.  I’ve felt guilt and shame . . .but I’ve also felt His peace and provision for me here, in the place I am.

Thank You, Lord, for Your presence in the lives of believers who are outside of the traditional church system by Your calling or the circumstances in their life.  Here’s a simple poem . . .

In This Place

The church bells are ringing
the flock is gathering in
but I can no longer go there
and find shelter with them.

It doesn’t mean that You’ve left me
or that I’m all alone
but that You’ve chose to build a temple
here in my heart and home.

  1. Deb, Thanks for sharing this. I am so blessed to be a member of your virtual church here in the blog world. And what a blessing to know that Jesus has made His home in our hearts and that He doesn’t just live in church buildings. Peace, Linda

  2. Oh Deb, thank you so much! I took great comfort in those words. Here is something I saw the other day that blessed me concerning this issue.

“20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Luke 17:20-21

  3. I have been blown away to have found “church” here. 🙂 So thankful for you and everyone who reaches out to me and lets me into their lives too.

  4. Thank you for that scripture in Luke! Yes, that is a comfort to know! And to trust Him that He has us where He wants us to be. 🙂

  5. Deb,
The online communication we have with other disciples of Christ is amazing. It causes us to receive an encouraging word from a brother or sister when in the midst of chaos. And it causes us to encourage beyond the borders of our countries. It allows us to know that it doesn’t matter where we are from, the color of our skin, or our upbringing we are all on the same path. You are a BIG part of a church, our church. Although you are not able to attend the assembly, you attend to it. God bless you sister.

  6. This was so encouraging and uplifting. Wow! Thank you for being here for me, for us! In His love, deb

  7. Occasionally God permits us to see another person’s storm which makes our own seem like just a puff of wind.

It is cool to see, in spite of whatever storm you are facing, that you are finding God in it. He is able to keep us.

I like what Jim said. There are probably 1,000’s of little on line churches. It’s good to be a part of one. You contribute much to it.

  8. That is the key, isn’t it . . .finding God in our storms or in our calms, in our busy times and lonely times . .. all the time! 🙂 So excited to be able to do church with you! 🙂

  9. I have gone through times when I attended my local church, but it did not feel like a body of believers. Even though I would never recommend that people stay away from church deliberately, there is joy in knowing that church is more than just a building. It is anywhere two or three are gathered in Christ’s name..and here we all are..rejoicing in what God can and will do in our lives. Now that is cool.

  10. Oh I loved your comment, the understanding and the joy of knowing He knows! love you!

  11. I just would like to thank you
    for welcoming me
    in your heart church

  12. And thank you for welcoming me into yours! Your heart church is bright and joyful, full of light and love. . .very welcoming and safe. I love it there with you! 🙂
