His Harvest

“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.'”  Matthew 9:37-38

It’s that time of year when we see farmers out in their fields with combines, gathering in the corn and soy beans.

Father, thank You for growing this excitement in me  over Your harvest.  Like the farmers who go into the fields that they own and have cared for all year, You, too, have a great and many people standing and waiting who already belong to You.  They simply need someone to help them take the next step further . . .into Your arms.  Here’s a simple poem . . .

Ready Fields

A single line of sunflowers
stands before the field of corn
heads bowed down and heavy
the season’s been hard sought.

The corn that’s been watched over
is now browning in its rows
with a combine in the corner
ready to harvest what’s been grown.

  1. Amen… Let’s arise and work in the fields… let’s pray for labourers!! lots of work to do and so little time left!! God bless

  2. “Father, thank You for growing this excitement in me over Your harvest.”

    Me too.

  3. Deb, This post reminded me of when I drove pea combine for a summer in college, and has led to God putting an idea in my head for my blog post that I will write later today. There are so many that He has planned for the harvest at the right time, and that is exciting! Peace, Linda

  4. I like this time of year, too. Thank you for your post…brings so many parables to mind…and a verse in one of my favorite hymns.

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To thy great faithfulness, mercy and love

I am so thankful the Lord tends to us like a farmer to his crop.

  5. God bless you, you holy combine you! 🙂

  6. It’s good to be excited together over Him and His! 🙂

  7. Oh, I can’t wait to read your post and have Him further grow my excitement! 🙂

  8. I am so thankful too, for His tending and care! Loved the verse from the hymn too . . .so glad that you added that! 🙂

  9. I goofed on the song. I left a whole line out. Sorry. It goes like this:

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
to Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

  10. Thank you so much for coming back with that! You are too much! love you!

  11. […] This morning a blogger friend of mine posted a poem about His Harvest based on Matthew 9:37-38, which […]

  12. Thank you Linda for linking up with me! 🙂 There was a post on another blog about team work . . .you are wonderful to team up with! 🙂

  13. with head bowed in humility
i would like to be that good harvest
just like all the faithful rest
like you and you and you
    (finger pointing at its best)

  14. We all point to Him, don’t we! 🙂 You are so in that harvest, bearing good fruit and bringing in smiles all around! love you!
