Tempting God

“”Go on before the people . . .Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it that the people may drink.”  Exodus 17:5-6

“So he called the name of the place Massah (tempted) and Meribah (contention) because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying ‘Is the Lord among us or not?'”  Exodus 17:7

Not long after I accepted Jesus as my Savior, I shared with someone how He’d taken away my desire for drugs and alcohol.  That person told me God would have to strike them with lightning in order for them to quit. !  It took everything in me to keep from high-tailing it away from them in case God did just that.  Now I know that God has chosen to send me on to live out my life in Christ before this person.

Thank You, Jesus, for Your patience with me even when I tempt You to lose it.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Before Us

When life becomes
more difficult
may I not forget
what You have done,
making a way
before me
by sending Jesus
Your only Son.

  1. Debbie,
Thank you for sharing something so painful about your past and how God brought you out of darkness into the light. I cannot praise God enough for the trials in my life because through them, I can relate to others in similar situations and by God’s saving grace evident in my life now, I can share my testimony of undeserved blessings from God’s hand. I presume God is giving you the opportunity to share your testimony to your friend and I will be praying for her and you.

  2. I love how you share your testimony of His saving grace in your life! He exudes from you, honestly. Thank you for your prayers, as many around me are watching how I live. May I always be found in Jesus! Blessings and praise to the name of Christ, deb

  3. Deb, I love how you have shared that our God can do what the world thinks is impossible. Just as He brought forth water from a rock in the desert (and I believe He REALLY did that, it’s not just some fable), He took away your desire for what was not good for you. He truly can change the hearts and minds of those who trust in Him to do so. I know, because He has done the same for me. Peace, Linda

  4. I love that we have this in common, the impossible being done for us! 🙂 And, really, as odd as it sounds, you help me see that. I don’t think I often enough realize the enormity of what He’s done for me, by delivering me the way He did. We can have a praise party! 🙂 God bless you!

  5. i wonder what road would like between tempted and contention? you have me thinking, again!

  6. Well, now you have me thinking more too! 🙂 Thanks, Jessie, and have a good weekend!
