Preserve Me From Fear

“Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.”  Psalms 64:1

I noticed that David didn’t ask to be preserved from the enemy.

Lord, preserve us from our fears today. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Preserve Us

Preserve us from
fear today, Lord

from  false evidence
appearing real

that we may walk
by faith in You, Lord

and not by how
we may feel.

(I thought the words in italics were a quote of Corrie Ten Boom, but then read that the origin is unknown.)

  1. Very true.. To walk by faith and not by sight.. “Not by how we feel” but how we perceive who God is and His power. God bless you.

    • “But how we perceive who God is and His power.” That is so good, Emerald. Praying to not lose sight of that! God bless you and your faith in Him.

  2. Amen – deliver us from fear… so true – reminds me of another Psalm of David – Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will FEAR no evil… Thanks for sharing. Beautiful as always.

    Love,
    Cheryl

    • Trusting Him to teach us how to walk through those valleys without fear! Thank you, Cheryl and God bless you and yours! love and prayers!

  3. Feelings are deceptive. We have no reason to fear.

    • I find comfort and Jesus confidence in your comment, Pastor Bill. “We have no reason to fear”. :) I like that! God bless you as you encourage us to believe Him today!

  4. Amen Deb. The enemy’ s only tool is fear and with it he destroys faith which incapacitates the believer. May we be delivered today into a glorious faith that walks into the plans of God even though afraid.

    • Thank you, Pastor J! Your comment explains how the enemy uses fear .. really good to know! God bless you as you walk into the plans He has for you!

  5. I have got to remember that Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real…I like that sister Debbie.

    • I’m so glad that it helped. I had read it quite awhile back and need to keep myself reminded! God bless you, dear Desiray, as you move according to the evidence of your Jesus!

  6. Fear and trust cannot co-exist. When we fear, in essence, we are not trusting in the Lord as we should. When we look at it this way, we all can see the need to have our faith built up by His grace. After all, if the truth be known, we all fear something. Lord bless.,

    • So true, Pastor Rob . .thank you! I was so surprised when God showed me that I was ‘stressing’ . .which is really being fearful, in a way. And that meant I wasn’t trusting Him to cover me in whatever situation that I was stressing about! argh. So thankful for the grace to keep learning to trust more and fear less. God bless you!

  7. Hi,
This is so true. So often we let small hills loom in our lives and they become mountains, and we forget that we serve a God that will not let us be overcome by anything. We are more than conquerors through him that loves us.
Thank you for this wonderful short prose that says so much.

    Ciao,
    Patricia

    • Thank you, Patricia! I love how you show it as something small that we allow to grow into a mountain in our minds. Yay for Jesus not letting us be overcome by anything! God bless you and all that you face this year with your Jesus that loves you!

  8. Between us, Jesus and I have no fears, but apart, I have every one of them.

    Thanks Debborino. Great poem.

    • Wonderful insight and so quotable, Mr. Larry! Thank you for sharing that! God bless you and your relationship with Jesus!
Smiling over the Debborino! I like it! :)

  9. I agree with everything Larry said! I’ve written down that acrostic as it is just too true!

Blessings to you, Debbie, & your daughter ~ Wendy xo

    • God bless you, wonderful Wendy, as you trust in Him! Thank you for the prayers and blessings . .they mean so much!

  10. WOW, Sis Deb! I’ve been following you for just over a year, right? And I always like your devotions and poems–but today is the first time I remember you carrying God’s message so specifically for my immediate need. Just before I “clicked onto” your blog, I was trying to name what it is I’m feeling so anxious and fearful about…no matter, God has spoken clearly here: “false evidence” means it comes from the Liar, and we don’t listen to him. Thanks So Much–God bless your Monday Miraculous!! love, sis Caddo (I love Lar’s “Debborino”)

    • Caddo I’m having trouble leaving a comment on your Goals post – keeps making me log in and rejecting me :) But just wanted to say LOVED the acrostic and if we truly made those things our goals for 2013 it would be transformational! Love and Blessings xx

P.S. Looks like God’s dealing with us on the same thing through dear Deb :)

    • I love how He can do that, deliver messages to whomever however He wants to! Praying with you about the fear factor, because it just creeps in and we don’t even recognize what it is, what’s going on. At least I don’t! God bless you as you dismiss the false evidence today and live miraculously in Jesus! love you lots, Sis Caddorino!

  11. Love this post today Deb! A few things have happened over the past couple of weeks that have made me realise how much fear has crept into my life. I’m doing a study of fear from Genesis to Revelation this year and lets just say a week in I’m already being so blessed and challenged by what God has to say about fear and all its various forms and shades. Pray that we would all walk in the freedom He came to give us! Love and blessings Deb xx

    • Freedom from fear sounds wonderful sweet Aimee! And your study sounds wonderful too! Will we be getting some posts about this, this year? hint hint! :) God bless you as you walk with Him this year!

      • :) Will definitely influence posts at some point … sensing though that I need to digest and process what God is teaching me before I pass it on though!

  12. Debbie, thank you for making this important distinction for us – it’s really helpful!
“I noticed that David didn’t ask to be preserved from the enemy.”
God bless your day, you, your daughter!
    In His love,
    Maria

    • Thank you so much, Maria, for your blessings and prayers and all that you do to help us see Jesus each day! God bless you and yours!

  13. Thank you Debbie. Had never realized David said it this way…about being preserved from the *fear* of the enemy…that fear is awful. A great prayer for my fearful self.

    • Love and hugs, dear Brook, as you keep trusting your Big God! You are braver than you know!

  14. Blessings to you Debbie!
    Thanks for this…
    Greg

    • God bless you , Greg, as you trust Him more and more!

  15. Our feelings weigh hopelessly heavy – must keep the mind and heart in the spiritual realm to gain hope, peace, and infinite love! Great post, Deb!
    God Bless You!

    • Boy, that really described feelings .. .hopelessly heavy! :) Thank you, Lady Dei! God bless you as you keep focused on what’s real .. .Jesus and His infinite love!

  16. it is my prayer too Debbie ..thanks for sharing ..

    • Thanks for being here, Flora! You always make my heart happy to see you! God bless you and hold you close!

  17. Fear is faith in satan: faith is trusting God.
If I fear, I am not trusting.
If I trust, I will not fear.
I know which one I choose!
    Forsaking All I Trust Him.

    • What a great comment and statement of faith, mentor Angela! Wow! Praying to trust Him more and always! God bless you as you chose your Amazing God over everything else! love and prayers!

  18. “that we may walk
    by faith in You, Lord

    and not by how
    we may feel.”

That is such a powerful way to walk! I am so thankful for this poem….so full of wisdom.

    Love,
    Theresa

    • It’s kind of easier to talk about it than walk it! :) But that is my prayer! love you and your walk with Jesus! God bless you, sweet friend!

  19. Deb, thank you for pointing out the difference between the enemy and the fear of the enemy. Fear is something that I still struggle with and it’s what I’m really working on this year – or better yet, what I’m turning over to Him.

    • I don’t always even realize that fear is what is behind what I’m feeling sometimes, Tammy, so understand so well about it being something that we struggle with. Sneaky stuff. God bless you as you become more and more fearless!
