Hypocrisy

“In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all,  ‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.'”  Luke 12:1 NKJV

Too much people pressure can make it harder for me to keep my beliefs, words and actions all matching up.

Thank You, Lord, for warning us about the temptation to say one thing and do another and for giving us Your Holy Spirit to keep us on track.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Oh Lord, You know
all my thoughts

all my words
all my heart

correct me now
so I can be

true to You
eternally.

God bless you as you stay real and vulnerable for His glory!

The Word of God

“But He said, ‘More than that, blessed are those that hear the word of God and keep it!’ ” Luke 11:28 NKJV

I don’t think this is just about memorizing.

Thank You, Lord, for Your Word that keeps and covers us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

How blessed are we
to hear

the Holy Word
of God

sweet oxygen
in our lungs

we carry forth
His love.

God bless you as His word lives in you today!

Serving Alone

“Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?  Therefore tell her to help me.”  Luke 10:40 NKJV

I love to serve, but when I’m stressed out it doesn’t come across that way.

Thank You, Lord, for Your peace that passes understanding when we are serving alone.
And here is a simple poem. . .

One thing is
needed
and that is
My peace

as you
love and
serve others
joyfully.

God bless you with peace as you serve Him and others today!

What Manner of Spirit

“And when His disciples James and John saw this they said, ‘Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?'”
“But He turned and rebuked them and said, ‘You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.'”
“For the Son of Man did not cone to destroy man’s lives but to save them.” Luke 9:54-56 NKJV

Sometimes my initial reaction  is to think something is bad, that God later shows me is good.

Thank You, Lord, for Your Holy Spirit that teaches and guides us always unto You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Oh Lord, humble me
and this flesh

that doesn’t know
You completely yet

nor what manner
of Spirit You are

that comes close to save
and not destroy from afar.

God bless you as He shows you what manner of Spirit you are of today!

Return

“Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him.  But Jesus sent him away, saying,
Return to your own house and tell about what great things God has done for you.’ ”  Luke 8:38-39 NKJV

I had a time of house sitting last month, with my daughter, during which God did great things.

Thank You, Lord,  for returning us to our own home with hearts full of praise.  And here’s a simple poem. . .

Return to
your own house

and tell
what God has done

for there are those
in that place

who need to know
the Son.

God bless you as you tell what great things He has done today!

In The Pharisee’s House

“And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus was at the table in the Parisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil,
and stood at His feet behind Him weeping . . .”  Luke 7:37-38 NKJV

It must’ve taken quite a bit for her to walk into that house.

Thank You, Lord, for never being ashamed of us as we come to You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Come to Me
and do not fear

for My eye is on you
to draw you near

walk past the critics
and those who sneer

seek only Me -
your Salvation’s here.

God bless you as you focus on just Him today!

Toward His Disciples

“Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said;
Blessed are you poor . . .
Blessed are you who hunger now . . .
Blessed are you who weep now . . .
Blessed are you when men hate you  . . .”  Luke 6:20-22 NKJV

I forgot Jesus said these things to those closest to Him.

Thank You, Lord, for being our always hope ad assurance.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Blessed are you
My beloved

who seek
and follow Me

though hated
poor and weeping

My glory
you will see.

God bless you today , for yours is the Kingdom of God.

Desiring New Wine

“And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better.’ ”  Luke 5:39  NKJV

I had to bottom out on the old before I could see I needed the new.

Thank You, Lord, for filling us with new life.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

No one immediately
desires new

for we think
the old is better

but after a time
we will surely

forsake all
to follow the Master.

God bless all the new He brings to your life.

Scripture Fulfilled

images birds in flight

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To preach deliverance to the captives
A
nd recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed,
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Isaiah 61:1-2)  Luke 4:18-19  NKJV

“And He began to say to them, ‘Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’ ”  Luke 4:21  NKJV

Jesus is still the fulfillment of scripture and our everything.

Thank You, Lord, for preaching and being the gospel to us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

I am here today
among you

to fulfill
your every need

receive Me now
and have life

and that
abundantly.

God bless you as you receive all He has for you today!

What Shall We Do

250px-Plum_tree_with_fruit

“Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” Luke 3:9  NKJV
“So the people asked him, saying, ‘What shall we do then?’ ” Luke 3:10  NKJV

John gave the people simple , specific , doable ways to respond:  to give to those who don’t have food and clothing if they did have those things. Tax collectors were told not to collect more than appointed them. And soldiers were not to intimidate or falsely accuse and be content with their wages.

Thank You, Lord, for helping us bear good fruits that glorify and honor You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

You will bear fruits
worthy of repentance
as I gather you
unto Me

and each time you ask
“what shall we do”
I’ll answer, “do justly
and love mercy.”

God bless you as you bear the fruit of repentance today!
