Caught Scoffing

“And Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned.”  Genesis 21:8 NKJV
“And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing.”  Genesis 21:9 NKJV

I do not have a poker face.

Thank You, Lord, for helping our outside reflect what You are doing inside.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

The look on my face
shows what’s on my mind

and if my thoughts
are other than kind.

Undo me, Lord
so I can repent

and learn to focus
on You instead.

God bless you as He sees you today!

In This Place

“And Abraham said, ‘Because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they will kill me on account of my wife.’ ”  Genesis 20:11  NKJV

If the people of Gerar were not in awe of God before Abraham came, they surely were afterward.

Thank You, Lord, for being everywhere, all the time.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

My awe
and wonder of You
can never
ever cease

as You change hearts
and move mountains
bringing upon us
peace.

God bless you as you behold Him today!

Mercy Takes Hold

“And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful to him and they brought him out and set him outside the city.”  Genesis 19:16  NKJV

I tend to linger too.

Thank You, Lord, for Your great mercy that takes hold of us and brings us out and away from what would destroy us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Your mercy takes
hold of me

and leads
me away

from the places
where I linger

that are harmful
for me to stay.

God bless you with His mercy today!

The Righteous

“And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?”  Genesis 18:23 NKJV

Abraham was thinking about Lot who lived in Sodom, but so was God.

Thank You, Lord, for all You do for the sake of Your children.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

The righteous
in Christ

will not
be condemned

for He came
to give life

even to
the least of them.

God bless you as He saves you from evil today!

That Very Same Day

“So Abraham . . .circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very same day, as God had said to him.”  Genesis 17:23 NKJV

Sometimes God doesn’t want us to wait.

Thank You, Lord, for telling us what to do and then helping us do it.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

You have spoken
I have listened

You’ve commanded
now I must act

best not to wait
for then I waiver

but be quick
about Your task.

God bless you as you act on His commands today!

Submit Yourself

“So the Angel of the LORD said to her, ‘Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand.’ ”  Genesis 16:9  NKJV

Submitting can be one of the hardest things to do.

Thank You, Lord, for teaching us first to submit to You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Lord, as You
grow us

to live in submission
to You

we can
submit to others

knowing You’re in control
there too.

God bless you as you submit yourself to God and others.

Driving Away Vultures

“And when the vultures came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.”  Genesis 15:11  NKJV

Abram was not giving up on God showing up.

Thank You, Lord, for keeping Your promises to us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

As we lay down before You
the vultures swoop in

picking at our beliefs
dragging out our sin

mocking us for waiting
saying You’ll never show up

but we know You always keep
Your promises to us.

God bless you as you wait before Him today!

In Pursuit

“Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants  who were born in his own house and went in pursuit as far as Dan.”  Genesis 14:14  NKJV

Abrams used what he had to face the challenge in front of him.

Thank You, Lord, for equipping us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Today
you may face

something
new

but do
not fear

for I’ve
equipped you.

God bless you as you use what God has given you to face today!

Walk

“Arise, walk in the land through its length and width, for I give it to you.”  Genesis 13:17 NKJV

Our God is the giver of good things.

Thank You, Lord, for the limitless blessings You have given us.  And here is a simple poem . . .

Arise and walk
through the length and width

of this land
that to you I give

no longer need you
to crouch and sit

but discover the joy
in all of it.

God bless you as you walk in His blessings!

Journeys

“And there he built an alter to the Lord, who had appeared to him.”  Genesis 12:7  NKJV
“. . . there he built an alter to the Lord and called on the name of the LORD.”  Genesis 12:8  NKJV
“So Abram journeyed . . .”  Genesis 12:9  NKJV

Abram’s journey was pretty epic.

Thank You, Lord, for each of our own epic journeys that You’ve mapped out for us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

You may call us out and away
or ask us to simply stay

our journeys may be physical
of about what we pray

yet You will appear to us
and encourage us day to day

as we call upon Your Holy
and wonderfully great Name.

God bless you as you journey today.
